The Philadelphia Flyers have made a strategic move by acquiring forward Brett Harrison and defenseman Jackson Edward from the Boston Bruins, swapping them for forwards Alexis Gendron and Massimo Rizzo.
Brett Harrison, 22, was drafted in the third round by the Bruins during the 2021 NHL Draft. He has made a notable impact this season with eight goals and nine assists, totaling 17 points in 46 games for the AHL’s Providence Bruins. Over his career in the AHL, Harrison has accumulated 49 points from 19 goals and 30 assists in 140 games.
Jackson Edward, also 22, has participated in nine games for the Providence Bruins this season and has been productive in the ECHL, where he recorded seven assists in 21 games with the Maine Mariners. Selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NHL Draft, Edward has played 40 career AHL games, contributing one goal and six assists.
On the other side of the deal, Alexis Gendron has had a strong performance with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season, netting 10 goals and 12 assists for a total of 22 points in 47 games. The 22-year-old, who was a seventh-round pick in 2022, has demonstrated his scoring ability with 35 goals and 22 assists in 127 career AHL games.
Massimo Rizzo, 24, has spent the current season with the Reading Royals in the ECHL, where he has secured 22 points in just 29 games. During his rookie season in 2024-25 with the Phantoms, he tallied six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. Rizzo was originally drafted in the seventh round by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019.
This trade reflects the Flyers’ intent to enhance their roster with promising talent while allowing Gendron and Rizzo to seek new opportunities. As the teams aim for success in their respective leagues, this exchange could benefit all players involved as they begin new chapters in their careers.
