Flyers land defenseman Kyrou in swap with Stars

The Philadelphia Flyers have made a significant move by acquiring defenseman Christian Kyrou from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Samu Tuomaala, as announced by General Manager Daniel Briere. Kyrou, who stands at 5 feet 11 inches and weighs 165 pounds, will report to the Flyers’ AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Kyrou, 22, was selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft, going 50th overall. He has accumulated 97 career AHL games with the Texas Stars over three seasons, where he has netted 12 goals and tallied 38 points. Notably, during the 2023-24 season, Kyrou led all defensemen on the Texas roster in power-play goals, contributing three, and ranked second among all blueliners with 23 points, including eight goals and 15 assists. This season, he has played four games for Texas and registered eight shots on goal.

On the other hand, Samu Tuomaala, a second-round pick by Philadelphia in the 2021 NHL Draft, will join the Stars organization. Tuomaala has spent parts of four seasons with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, amassing 26 goals, 49 assists, and a total of 75 points in 120 AHL games.

The Flyers, looking to bolster their defensive lineup, will host the Nashville Predators tonight at Xfinity Mobile Arena at 7:00 p.m. Fans can catch the game on NBCSP and listen in on 97.5 The Fanatic. This trade represents a strategic shift for the Flyers as they aim to enhance their performance in the coming games.
