Florida’s basketball team remains firmly positioned at No. 5 in the ESPN College Basketball Power Index following a victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks. However, the Gators slipped two spots to No. 7 in the latest rankings ahead of their competition against the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday.

Currently, Florida holds a BPI of 21.7, slightly down by 0.1 since the last update. The Gators’ offensive BPI decreased to 10.2, placing them 15th nationally. In contrast, their defensive BPI remained unchanged at 11.4, securing a fifth overall ranking in this category.

ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index serves as a significant measurement of team strength, designed to predict upcoming performance. It factors in various elements such as opponent strength, gameplay pace, travel distances, and more, simulating the season 10,000 times to derive accurate projections.

For the remainder of the season, ESPN forecasts the Gators will finish with an impressive record of 23.8 wins and 7.2 losses overall, and a conference performance of 14.8 wins to 3.2 losses, showing a slight gain from their last prediction. Currently, Florida is perched atop the SEC standings, holding a two-game lead over competitors Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

As the Gators approach the conclusion of the season with just five games left, they stand on the brink of clinching the regular-season conference title. Their chances of winning the SEC are an impressive 96.7%, with only Alabama and Tennessee showing probabilities above 1%.

Florida has the 14th toughest remaining schedule in the nation and is excelling with a conference-best record of 10-5 against quality opponents, placing second nationally behind the Michigan Wolverines. Additionally, the Gators boast the sixth-strongest schedule overall, with their non-conference strength ranked at No. 19.
