China’s naval hospital ship, the Silk Road Ark, is poised to arrive in Suva, Fiji, delivering free medical services to local citizens starting tomorrow. The Chinese Embassy has announced that the ship will dock at King’s Wharf and will stay in Fiji until the following Wednesday. At the Vodafone Arena Hall B, a preliminary medical checkpoint will be set up for those seeking treatment. Patients approved for treatment will be shuttled to the port by embassy-organized buses, and the visitors are advised to bring their valid identification documents for registration.
Medical services will be available at the arena daily from 8 AM to 5 PM beginning Thursday, with all medical care provided on board being completely free. This is part of the Silk Road Ark’s maiden global journey, aimed at providing specialized healthcare and enhancing medical cooperation between China and Pacific nations.
This initiative offers Fijians access to advanced medical treatments, including screenings, check-ups, and consultations, underlining the longstanding friendship between China and Fiji. During earlier visits, similar missions have been undertaken to provide essential medical services, improving healthcare infrastructure and strengthening diplomatic relations. These endeavors are also supported by teams like the Bright Journey Medical Team, who have been performing free cataract surgeries in Fiji since 2013, enhancing the quality of life for over 200 patients and earning the nickname “Angel of Light.”
The Silk Road Ark’s mission not only provides much-needed medical care but also reinforces the cooperative spirit and mutual growth between China and Fiji.
