Julius Jordan Priester, a 24-year-old Kansas resident, faces serious legal repercussions after allegedly attacking a flight attendant during an American Airlines flight. The incident occurred on May 27 as the flight departed from Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut, destined for Chicago. Around half an hour into the flight, Priester reportedly started exhibiting disruptive behavior, which included standing up, removing his shirt, and shouting for help before he grabbed a seated flight attendant and attempted to drag them up the aisle.
The flight crew, along with other passengers, quickly intervened and managed to return Priester to his seat as he continued to act erratically. The captain eventually declared an in-flight emergency, prompting a diversion back to Bradley Airport. Upon landing, Connecticut State Police removed Priester from the aircraft, and he was subsequently taken for medical evaluation.
Priester is now facing federal charges that include assaulting a crew member and interfering with flight operations, both of which could lead to a lengthy prison sentence of up to 20 years. He is scheduled for a bond hearing on May 30 as investigations continue by the FBI and local police.
American Airlines responded to the incident by emphasizing their zero-tolerance policy towards violence, thanking their crew for their professionalism during the ordeal and acknowledging the support of other passengers.
