A 24-year-old man, identified as Julius Jordan Priester, has been arrested after an alarming incident on American Airlines Flight 3359, which was traveling from Bradley International Airport to Chicago. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office for the District of Connecticut, Priester has been charged with interfering with flight crew members, a serious offense that could result in a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
The incident occurred on May 27, approximately thirty minutes to one hour into the flight. Witnesses reported that Priester stood up, began removing his shirt, and started yelling for help. He then attempted to forcibly drag a flight attendant down the aisle, reportedly shouting, “you’re coming with me.” Quick action from fellow passengers prevented further escalation, as they intervened and returned him to his seat. Despite being restrained, Priester continued to exhibit erratic behavior and made incoherent statements.
In response to the situation, the pilot declared an emergency that prompted the flight to return to Bradley International Airport. Upon landing, Priester was removed from the aircraft by Connecticut State Police and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Priester had an initial appearance in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas O. Farrish in Hartford, where he is currently detained awaiting a bond hearing.
This incident underscores the importance of maintaining safety and security on flights, highlighting the role of passengers and crew in addressing disruptive behavior promptly. It is a reminder of the challenges faced in air travel and the need for vigilant cooperation among all individuals on board.
As this case unfolds, it serves as a significant example of how quick actions can prevent potentially dangerous situations in the skies.
