Fleetwood Mac’s landmark self-titled 1975 album, which marked the introduction of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks to the band, is set for a fresh reissue, promising to deliver an enhanced listening experience. The iconic 9x Platinum-certified album will premiere on Blu-ray Audio with an immersive Dolby Atmos format through Rhino, as well as a remastered edition as part of the label’s High Fidelity series of audiophile-quality vinyl. Both formats are slated for release on August 8.
Building upon historical context, it’s noteworthy that prior to this album, Fleetwood Mac was primarily a blues-rock quartet featuring Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, alongside Christine McVie. The departure of singer/guitarist Bob Welch in 1974 paved the way for Buckingham and Nicks, whose unique musical synergy would help define the band’s sound. This refreshed lineup quickly transformed Fleetwood Mac into a powerful rock ensemble, appealing to a diverse audience.
The original Fleetwood Mac album became a massive hit in the United States, topping the Billboard 200 charts in 1976, and achieving over five million copies sold. Its success helped launch three singles into the Top 20, including the beloved tracks “Over My Head,” “Rhiannon,” and “Say You Love Me.” These elements laid the groundwork for the band’s subsequent triumphs, including the record-breaking album Rumours that followed amidst personal tensions within the band.
Rhino’s upcoming Blu-ray Audio of Fleetwood Mac will showcase a new Dolby Atmos mix by Chris James, as well as a 5.1 surround mix from original producer Ken Caillat. Additionally, the High Fidelity vinyl reissue is meticulously remastered by Kevin Gray, using original analog master tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl, limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. A special edition will include two 7-inch singles featuring popular tracks, available exclusively on Rhino.com.
As the legacy of Fleetwood Mac continues to thrive in the music world, this reissue allows both new listeners and long-time fans to revisit the rich sound and timeless quality that has defined one of rock music’s greatest bands. The pre-order period will offer fans the chance to secure these sought-after editions in anticipation of the August 8 release.
