Flawless Football: TKA and Royal Palm Beach High School Dominate Early Season

As the third week of the high school football season begins, both Royal Palm Beach High School and the King’s Academy are enjoying flawless starts.

The King’s Academy (TKA) varsity football team achieved a convincing 49-7 victory against Park Vista High School on August 16 during a kickoff classic. They followed this up with two more wins in the regular season—a 13-0 victory over Saint Andrew’s School on August 23 and a 28-21 win against Fort Pierce Westwood on August 30.

In the game against Saint Andrew’s, TKA quarterback Joe Dailey threw for 143 yards and a touchdown, completing 10 of 17 passes, while Tristan Stewart led the ground attack with 67 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, James Powell made a standout contribution with five tackles and five assisted tackles. TKA showed resilience by scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter to secure the win over Fort Pierce Westwood.

Head coach Dan Burack expressed satisfaction with his team’s determination, stating, “So far, our team has shown a relentless effort in games. They never give up on any play.” He added that the team is focused on honing their blocking and tackling skills during practice.

TKA’s next game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6, against the winless Gulliver Prep Raiders (0-2) in Miami-Dade County, with kickoff at 4 p.m. They will also host Somerset Prep from North Lauderdale on Sept. 12.

The Royal Palm Beach High School Wildcats are experiencing their best start in years. Like TKA, they won their kickoff classic, overpowering Olympic Heights High School 52-7 on August 16. They also earned two victories in the regular season: a narrow 28-27 win at Port St. Lucie High School on August 23 and a commanding 59-19 triumph against John I. Leonard High School at home on August 30.

In the win over John I. Leonard, RPBHS head coach Chuck Kenyon highlighted standout performances from freshmen Demetrius Gibson, who caught five passes for 116 yards, including two touchdowns, and Al Carter, who added a touchdown on a 50-yard jet sweep. Sophomore Demetrice Rolle made significant contributions by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown and quickly following with another impressive 80-yard return for a second touchdown. Rolle described his strategy as running towards openings where he saw daylight.

Kenyon remarked on the extraordinary nature of the plays, stating, “In my 26 years of coaching high school football, I’ve never seen anything like that.” He noted the score was 13-7 in their favor at just over ten minutes into the first quarter.

The Wildcats will continue their pursuit of victory on Friday, Sept. 6, at Suncoast High School, followed by a home game against William T. Dwyer High School on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Wellington High School’s varsity football team currently holds a record of 1-1 after two regular season games. In their opener against Port St. Lucie’s Centennial High School on August 22, they forced five turnovers but lost 26-12. They rebounded with a solid 31-0 shutout victory over Lake Worth High School on August 29.

Coach Ross Pryor praised his defense’s performance, stating, “Our defense is playing lights out.” Key contributors in the game against Lake Worth included junior running back J.T. Thomas, who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown; senior wide receiver Trey Allen, who caught three passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns; and junior defensive lineman Nicholas Lane, who recorded two sacks.

The Wolverines aim to add another win when they face Park Vista High School on Sept. 6, with a bye scheduled for the fourth week.
