Singer FKA Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, has officially withdrawn her sexual assault lawsuit against her former partner, actor Shia LaBeouf. The lawsuit, which was initiated in December 2020 in Los Angeles, alleged instances of physical and sexual abuse during their relationship. Now, nearly five years since the lawsuit was filed, both parties have reached a settlement.
In a joint statement released by their lawyers, they expressed their commitment to a “constructive path forward,” noting, “While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success, and peace in the future.” This amicable resolution comes after a tumultuous relationship that reportedly began while they were working together on the film “Honey Boy” in 2019.
During the relationship, Twigs described experiencing a “continuous stream of verbal and mental abuse.” Following the lawsuit, LaBeouf addressed his past actions, admitting to the harm he caused Twigs and others. On Jon Bernthal’s podcast “Real Ones,” LaBeouf spoke candidly about his behavior, saying, “I hurt that woman, and in the process of doing that, I hurt many other people… I was a pleasure-seeking, selfish, self-centered, dishonest, inconsiderate, fearful human being.”
This settlement marks a significant step for both individuals as they seek to move forward with their lives. It highlights the importance of accountability and the possibility of personal growth after acknowledging past mistakes.
The positive takeaway from this development is the potential for healing and moving towards a more hopeful future for both Twigs and LaBeouf, as they end this chapter of their lives with wishes for happiness and success.
