On January 7, 2026, the College Sports Communicators announced the 2025 Academic All-District Football Teams, recognizing the achievements of top student-athletes for their performances both on the field and in academic pursuits. Five players from the University of South Carolina football team were honored on this prestigious list: wide receiver Nyck Harbor, tight end Brady Hunt, defensive back David Bucey, punter Mason Love, and kicker William Joyce.
Each of these student-athletes has made significant contributions to the Gamecocks, demonstrating impressive skill and dedication. Joyce was recognized as a standout in his position, making 12 of 15 field goals and hitting all of his extra points, which contributed to him scoring a total of 67 points. He became the team’s starting placekicker in his fifth year after a successful walk-on tenure, and he has also earned academic accolades with degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration.
Harbor, who will return for his final season, had an outstanding year as a receiver, catching 30 passes for a team-high 618 yards and six touchdowns. His remarkable 20.6 yards per reception places him in the top ranks of the school’s history. Additionally, he was involved in community service efforts through the SEC.
Hunt, who has excelled academically with a perfect 4.0 GPA, completed his undergraduate studies in finance and pursued a master’s in sport and entertainment management. On the field, the tight end contributed significantly, with 21 receptions for 168 yards along with two rushing touchdowns during the 2025 season.
Bucey made his mark as a rising junior defensive back from Savannah, Georgia, with a season total of 14 tackles. He showcased his versatility with one game as a starter, stepping up in relief of an injured teammate, and registered a blocked punt against South Carolina State.
Mason Love, a sports media major, impressed as a punter and earned Freshman All-SEC honors. He averaged 45.1 yards per punt, ranking him among the best freshman kickers nationally and helping the team with field position by placing 16 punts inside the 20-yard line.
These five athletes not only exemplify excellence in sports but also serve as role models in their academic endeavors, highlighting the dual commitment of student-athletes at the University of South Carolina.
