Fitness Legend Richard Simmons Passes Away: A Shocking Accident Revealed

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that fitness icon Richard Simmons died from “blunt traumatic injuries” on July 13, with “arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease” being a contributing condition. His death has been classified as accidental.

Simmons, 76, reportedly fell at his home on July 11 and spent the following day in bed. He was found unresponsive on his bedroom floor on the morning of July 13, and emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene.

Previously, Simmons’ brother, Lenny Simmons, indicated that the cause of death stemmed from “complications from recent falls and heart disease.” Family spokesperson Tom Estey sharing updates stated that the toxicology report revealed no illicit substances, only prescribed medication. The family expressed gratitude for the support they received during this difficult time.

Simmons’ death was initially deferred pending further testing. He passed away just a day after his 76th birthday at his residence in Hollywood Hills.

Originally from Louisiana, Simmons struggled with his weight, reaching 268 pounds by high school graduation. By changing his diet and incorporating moderate exercise, he successfully transformed his lifestyle, a method he subsequently shared with millions.

In the 1970s, Simmons opened a fitness studio named Slimmons in Beverly Hills, which led to the creation of the nationally syndicated television program, The Richard Simmons Show. The show aired for four years and won several Emmy awards.

He also created a hugely successful series of fitness videos called “Sweatin’ To The Oldies” and released a total of 65 fitness videos throughout his career, selling over 20 million copies. Additionally, he authored nine books and three cookbooks.

Earlier this year, Simmons publicly opposed a biopic about his life featuring actor and comedian Pauly Shore, stating he had never authorized such a project. He emphasized his desire for privacy and a peaceful life, thanking his supporters for their love.
