First-Time Sukuna Bowl Arrives in Labasa: Rugby and Soccer Take Center Stage

Residents of the northern region of Fiji are being encouraged to come out in large numbers for the much-anticipated 2025 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl, set to take place on Thursday and Friday at Subrail Park in Labasa. The event will feature soccer and rugby matches, promising an exciting atmosphere for both participants and spectators alike.

Senior Superintendent of Police Jovilisi Leweniqila, who leads the joint organizing committee, expressed confidence in Labasa’s preparation to host this significant annual event. “Labasa is a hive of activity,” he shared, highlighting conversations held with various stakeholders—including the special administrator and local business owners—who are eagerly looking forward to the Ratu Sukuna Bowl.

This year marks a notable first: the rugby and soccer elements of the Sukuna Bowl will be held in Labasa, offering local fans an opportunity to experience the action live instead of just through television screens. Leweniqila urged residents of nearby regions, including Cakaudrove, Bua, and Macuata, to attend, emphasizing that this is a rare chance for the northern community to fully enjoy the event.

The soccer match is scheduled to kick off on Thursday at 11 AM, followed by a women’s match on Friday at the same time, leading into the highly anticipated main rugby match at 3 PM. Furthermore, preparations are underway for additional competitions, including boxing and oldies rugby, scheduled for Nasova on the same dates.

This annual gathering is celebrated not only for its competitive spirit but also for its role in fostering community unity and promoting positive values, such as discipline and collaboration. The Ratu Sukuna Bowl serves as a platform for the Fiji Police Force to engage with the public and address vital social issues, including drug prevention efforts.

With the excitement building within the community and the support of local businesses, the upcoming events represent a hopeful occasion for sports tourism in Labasa. The Sukuna Bowl reflects not only the passion for rugby and soccer in the region but also a chance for local economies to thrive through increased visitor engagement.

As this significant event approaches, the anticipation is palpable, providing an opportunity for the people of Labasa and surrounding areas to rally together, celebrate their shared love for sports, and enjoy a weekend filled with thrilling matches.
