Coeur d’Alene is set to welcome North Idaho’s first and only temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as announced by the Church on Monday. This upcoming temple will be the tenth in the state of Idaho.
Elder Hal C. Hunsaker, Area Seventy, expressed excitement over the new temple, highlighting its significance for both members of the Church and the local community. He stated, “The announcement of the location and rendering of the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Temple is a joyful moment for both Latter-day Saints and our friends and neighbors throughout the area.” Upon its completion, the temple will host a public open house, inviting community members to experience its tranquil and sacred environment.
Plans for the Coeur d’Alene temple include a single-story structure along with a meetinghouse and an ancillary building. The temple will be situated at the intersection of Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard.
President Bradley S. Moss, who leads the Post Falls, Idaho Stake, emphasized the importance of this new temple for local church members. “Latter-day Saints live in all corners of North Idaho,” he said. “Many travel long distances to worship in The House of the Lord. Having one here in Coeur d’Alene is a profound blessing and a reflection of the faith and devotion of our members. We hope it will also be a source of beauty and peace for the entire community.”
The addition of the temple to Coeur d’Alene reflects a growing Latter-day Saint presence in North Idaho, which is home to seven stakes representing approximately 56 congregations ranging from Lewiston to Sandpoint. The idea for this project was first revealed by the Church’s former President, Russell Nelson, during the October 2024 general conference.
The future temple is anticipated to serve not only as a place of worship but also as a unifying space for the community, fostering a spirit of peace and beauty in the region.
