The 2025 Fijian Cup is gearing up for an exhilarating weekend with the launch of the first-ever Fijian Cup Oztag Tournament at Lawaqa Park, scheduled to take place over two days. Assistant Tournament Director Nanise Tikoicina expressed her excitement, highlighting that the event goes beyond just competition. It is designed to unite various communities in Fiji, create a robust foundation for Oztag, and celebrate local talent alongside the camaraderie that embodies Fijian culture.
“This is a thrilling moment for players as they come together to make history, play with passion, and represent their teams and communities,” Tikoicina said, extending gratitude to all supporters joining this significant endeavor. The tournament will feature four categories: Men’s (Naseigwane), Women’s (Vulau), Open Mixed (Veiwaki), and Masters (Naviagwane).
In the men’s division, eight teams will compete, split into two pools. Pool A will include Dream Team, Hunter Brothers, AFL, and Sigatoka, while Pool B features Real Ones, Hoodlegends, Eastern Saints, and Seabreeze. The women’s category will see teams Paraadice, AFL, Real Ones, and Laselase battle for the championship. Additionally, the Open Mixed division will host eight teams, while four teams will compete in the Masters category.
The anticipation surrounding the Fijian Cup underscores its role as a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, community participation, and tourism. This initiative builds on the successes of previous tournaments in Fiji, which have highlighted local athletes and attracted international competitors. With a strong emphasis on community spirit and sporting excellence, both the Oztag Tournament and the broader Fijian Cup aim to enhance the growth of sports and tourism in the region.
As the tournament unfolds, it offers much more than thrilling matches; it serves as a platform for building new friendships and experiences, ultimately enriching the local community and cultivating a profound sense of unity among all participants.
