Pasifika Communities University has marked a significant achievement by securing its first-ever grant from the Fiji Higher Education Commission for the 2025–2026 period. This milestone underscores the university’s commitment to enhancing its educational offerings and strengthening its academic community. Registrar Nikotemo Sopepa expressed deep gratitude towards the government for this vital support, emphasizing that the grant will be pivotal in advancing the university’s curriculum development and boosting its human resources.
With this funding, the university is poised to establish new academic faculties, including the innovative School of Pacific Philosophy and Engineering Science, and the School of Ecology, Resilience, and Development. These new faculties are expected to be partially operational by the next year and reach full development by 2027, signifying a strategic expansion in the university’s educational landscape.
A particular focus of the university is to empower high school dropouts by offering them opportunities to acquire valuable skills, thus enhancing their employability and reinforcing the university’s dedication to inclusive education. In a related development, the Fiji Higher Education Commission has signed a Grant Agreement for 2025–2026 with nine other universities, representing a collective effort to improve educational services across participating institutions. Previously, 13 higher education institutions in Fiji benefited from substantial government funding aimed at aligning academic programs with labor market requirements and narrowing the skills gap.
