MYRTLE BEACH, SC – WMBF continues its FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS for areas inland of the waterway as cold temperatures pose the threat for ice tomorrow morning.
Inland regions will be under a RED alert due to the potential for slick travel. There is a significant risk of refreezing on main roads and back roads where any standing water remains. Motorists should exercise caution due to the potential for black ice and allow extra time for their journeys.
Meanwhile, the Grand Strand is expected to have only isolated patches of black ice, but conditions are generally more favorable for travel. Tomorrow morning’s temperatures are forecasted to dip into the mid-20s in the Grand Strand, while the Pee Dee area will experience even colder temperatures in the teens.
As we transition into the afternoon, the series of FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS will conclude, with temperatures expected to rise into the 40s, providing a much-needed shift towards warmer weather, reaching the upper 40s for both the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, a significant change is anticipated on Wednesday when a cold front will sweep through the area, bringing widespread rain. Fortunately, with temperatures remaining above freezing, this system will primarily produce rain rather than ice or snow.
As the front moves offshore by Thursday, temperatures will drop into the 30s and 20s in the morning, but a gradual warming trend will see us climb back to the low 40s later in the day. By Friday, conditions will improve further, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the mid to upper 40s.
