Fire Danger Soars: Red Flag Warning Issued for Bay Area!

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for much of the Bay Area from Thursday night through Saturday evening due to dry and windy weather that increases the risk of rapid wildfire spread.

The warning, effective from 11 p.m. Thursday until 5 p.m. Saturday, comes as winds are expected to reach speeds of 25-35 mph, with gusts potentially hitting 65 mph in higher terrain.

Forecasts indicate that the North Bay interior mountains, East Bay hills, Diablo Range, and San Francisco Peninsula will experience notably windy conditions along with low humidity levels.

In response to the fire weather threats, PG&E plans to implement Public Safety Power Shutoffs in certain areas across the Bay Area.

Prior to the dry and gusty weather, the region may experience minor moisture in the form of drizzle on Wednesday morning, although significant precipitation is unlikely.

Additionally, a beach hazards statement is in effect for various locations including San Francisco, the coastal North Bay, the San Francisco Peninsula coast, as well as northern and southern Monterey Bay, and the Big Sur coast until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Elevated waves could potentially crash onto shore without warning, posing a risk of pulling individuals into the ocean.
