Cal Fire has announced the suspension of residential debris burning permits in the state responsibility areas of Alpine, Amador, El Dorado, Sacramento, and San Joaquin counties as of Saturday. This precaution comes in response to increasing fire risks attributed to rising temperatures, dry winds, and extensive grass growth, making it unsafe for public burns according to a release from Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado unit.

Recently, multiple fires have been reported in the area, underscoring the heightened danger. One notable incident occurred in southeastern Sacramento County, where a grass fire quickly escalated to 80 acres, threatening several structures. The Consumnes Community Service District Fire Department promptly responded to this situation, which briefly necessitated the evacuation of nearby ranch homes.

Fortunately, firefighters managed to halt the fire’s progress by Saturday afternoon. The cause remains under investigation, and the fire department has confirmed there were no injuries reported. They are now conducting a damage assessment.

On Sunday, another vegetation fire sparked along Sheridan Boulevard south of the community of Sheridan, leading Cal Fire to issue evacuations that have since been lifted. This fire spread to 49 acres and was about 20% contained by 2:54 p.m.

To safeguard homes and property, Cal Fire recommends clearing all dead vegetation within 100 feet of structures and advises residents to seek alternative disposal methods for landscape debris. The proactive measures aim to enhance community safety during this heightened fire season.
