Filipino gymnast makes history with Olympic gold triumph.

Carlos Yulo has finally capitalized on his extraordinary talent.

The historic Filipino gymnast etched his name in the record books once again on Saturday, August 3rd, by winning the gold medal in the men’s floor exercise final at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Yulo scored a 15.000 after flawlessly executing his three-and-a-half twist dismount. Celebrating the moment on the podium, he pumped both fists before acknowledging the judges, saluting the fans, and placing his hands on his heart.

“I’m so overwhelmed. I’m feeling grateful for having this medal and for God. He protected me, as always,” Yulo said afterward. “He gave me the strength to get through this kind of performance and perform this well.”

Tokyo 2020 champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel earned the silver (14.966), while Great Britain’s Jake Jarman (14.933) claimed the bronze.

This achievement marks the first medal of any color for the Philippines in gymnastics and just their second Olympic gold ever, following Hidilyn Diaz’s victory in the Women’s 55 kg weightlifting event in Tokyo.

This triumph comes after the 24-year-old Yulo faced several challenges in recent years, including issues with consistency and performing under pressure at the previous Games in Tokyo.

For every breakthrough—such as his first gold on the floor exercise at the 2019 World Championships—there have been setbacks, like last year’s World Championships where he finished last in the all-around qualifications, scoring a 0.000 on the vault.

“I’m grateful for the people who really supported me. I could not do it without them,” said Yulo.
