Young Fijians are being urged to embrace entrepreneurship as a means to enhance the economy and rejuvenate urban centers. Jitesh Patel, President of the Suva Retailers Association, emphasizes that businesses led by youth infuse fresh ideas into the market while bolstering existing retailers. According to Patel, these new enterprises not only keep money circulating within the local economy but also offer appealing products and services that draw customers back to the city.

Amidst the challenges posed by online platforms, young entrepreneurs are proving their resilience by providing competitive pricing and innovative solutions. Patel highlighted the importance of encouraging young people to venture into business, stating, “It is like a cycle. Even new businesses open, they do buy things from other retailers and wholesalers as well.”

Kamal Chetty, Chief Executive of Investment Fiji, supports this initiative by actively seeking opportunities to foster Fijian businesses. Chetty remarked that their efforts revolve around not just helping Fijian businesses grow but also connecting them with the right partners and investments that align with the nation’s vision and aspirations.

The collaborative efforts of the Suva Retailers Association and Investment Fiji to support youth-led enterprises aim to strengthen the economy, revitalize urban life, and create sustainable opportunities for communities throughout Fiji. This initiative promises a hopeful outlook for the future of local businesses as empowered young entrepreneurs continue to emerge.
