Fifteen youth leaders from the National Youth Council of Fiji (NYCF) have successfully completed the groundbreaking “Triple C from Youth Rising for a Peaceful Blue Pacific” workshop, a unique initiative designed to enhance youth capacity in media, digital storytelling, and online content creation. Organized by NYCF in partnership with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), this workshop is the first of its kind in Fiji.

The Triple C Project aims to bridge the gap between active youth engagement in community initiatives and the lack of media skills necessary for effectively sharing these efforts with local and international audiences. This training falls under IPYG’s Content Creator Course, which supports young people in expressing their voices through digital platforms.

During the workshop, Minister for Youth Jese Saukuru emphasized the importance of empowering young people with media and communication skills. He stated, “Empowering youth-led initiatives aligns with Fiji’s broader aspirations for peace and sustainable development.” Participants enjoyed hands-on training in artificial intelligence tools, Canva, and various social media platforms, producing card news, videos, and content focused on peace, environmental awareness, and social cohesion.

The workshop also included a lecture by Jade Fun, a media studies faculty member from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore, which covered the responsibilities of journalists and their role in society. Participants reported that the training enhanced their understanding of how effective storytelling and public engagement can drive social change and elevate the visibility of youth-led initiatives.

IPYG expressed optimism that the participants would evolve from learners to creators, eventually becoming educators who could empower additional young individuals. Looking ahead, NYCF and IPYG are set to expand their collaboration with other youth organizations and government agencies to further promote youth-led peace and environmental initiatives both in Fiji and beyond, reinforcing a collective commitment to fostering positive change.
