Fifteen youth leaders from the National Youth Council of Fiji (NYCF) have successfully completed the groundbreaking “Triple C from Youth Rising for a Peaceful Blue Pacific” workshop, an innovative initiative aimed at enhancing young people’s abilities in media, digital storytelling, and online content creation. This unique workshop, organized in collaboration with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), marks a significant milestone in Fiji’s commitment to empowering its youth.

The Triple C Project seeks to bridge the gap between active youth involvement in community initiatives and the essential media skills required to effectively communicate these efforts to both local and international audiences. This workshop is part of IPYG’s Content Creator Course, which offers support to young people in asserting their voices through various digital channels.

During the event, Minister for Youth Jese Saukuru highlighted the critical role of media and communication skills in empowering young people. He remarked, “Empowering youth-led initiatives aligns with Fiji’s broader aspirations for peace and sustainable development.” Participants received practical training in using artificial intelligence tools, Canva, and various social media platforms, allowing them to produce engaging content that focuses on peace, environmental awareness, and social cohesion.

Additionally, the workshop featured a lecture by Jade Fun, a media studies lecturer from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore, who discussed the responsibilities of journalists and their significant role in society. Participants found that this training enhanced their understanding of how effective storytelling and public engagement can drive social change and increase the visibility of youth-led initiatives.

IPYG remains optimistic about the future impact of the participants, envisioning them as they transition from learners to creators and eventually to educators who will inspire and empower more young individuals. Looking forward, NYCF and IPYG plan to expand their collaboration with other youth organizations and government agencies to promote youth-led peace and environmental initiatives, reinforcing a united commitment to foster positive change in Fiji and beyond. This initiative not only equips young leaders with vital skills but also lays the groundwork for a more engaged and informed community.
