Fiji is currently grappling with the repercussions of a community in distress, as an alarming rise in youth involvement in criminal activities has been reported throughout the nation. This troubling trend was highlighted by Reverend Taniela Baleinakorodala, Vice Principal of Davuilevu Theological College, who emphasizes that the increasing rate of youth-related offences is indicative of a profound moral and social decline that urgently needs to be addressed.
Reverend Baleinakorodala noted that the nation appears to be growing more complacent, urging communities to recognize that the issues at hand extend far beyond isolated incidents. He stresses the importance of reinforcing core values within society and advocates for the meaningful application of church teachings in the lives of the youth, whether they are students, professionals, or community members.
He pointed out the necessity for innovative and practical approaches that empower young people to embody these values in their daily lives. One of the pivotal solutions he proposes is to reignite the spirit of volunteerism among the youth, encouraging them to actively participate in community service. This involvement not only fosters a sense of purpose but also cultivates discipline and responsibility.
Baleinakorodala asserts that rebuilding the community’s strength will require a collective effort and a proactive stance in guiding young individuals away from potentially harmful behaviors. By instilling purpose and values in young people, there is hope for a brighter future where they contribute positively to society.
