The Heineken Wanfire Music Festival recently illuminated Buckhurst Park in Suva, drawing in thousands of enthusiastic fans despite the persistent rain. Music aficionados from across Fiji congregated under cloudy skies, proving their dedication to the vibrant celebration that was characterized by electrifying performances from some of the Pacific’s most prominent musical acts.
The steady downpour did little to dampen spirits, as fans sang and danced with fervor, infusing the venue with an infectious energy. Commenting on the turnout, Kali Tui of VT1s expressed amazement at the crowd’s resilience, sharing, “It’s overwhelming to see so many people here despite the rain. It’s heartening to see everyone’s love for music.”
Apakuki Nalawa, known as Kuki, the lead of the famed Fijian band Inside Out, emphasized the festival’s collective spirit, noting, “While we can’t control the weather, we can control the vibes, and the crowd brought incredible energy tonight.”
The festival boasted a star-studded lineup, including performances from Liz Vamarasi, One Tox, Sweet Sensation, Kali D, and Spectrum, each delivering captivating sets. The night reached its crescendo with a powerful performance by esteemed Kiwi artist Stan Walker. His rendition of “Aotearoa” inspired the crowd, resulting in a euphoric sing-along.
Jointly organized by Spinning Village and Punjas Fiji, the Heineken Wanfire Music Festival is becoming an integral component of Fiji’s dynamic live music scene. These events foster unity and celebrate Pacific culture while promoting local talent. They also significantly contribute to the economy through heightened tourism and community interaction. The impressive turnout at Buckhurst Park, despite the wet weather, underscores music’s capacity to unite and positions Fiji as an increasingly attractive location for world-class music festivals.
