Fifty-five households in the Korolevu and Dradramea communities of Seaqaqa are still lacking electricity, despite earlier government commitments to extend the power grid to these areas. Resident Moape Ligalevu voiced his frustration over the lack of follow-up regarding promises made during a town hall meeting in Labasa last year.

The community has been grappling with ongoing power shortages, and with the new school year just beginning, this disappointment has intensified—particularly as a nearby government facility enjoys full power while local residents remain in darkness. The absence of electricity has significantly disrupted daily life; children are now reliant on solar lighting for their schoolwork, while women must perform domestic tasks manually without the benefit of electric appliances.

Ligalevu raised safety concerns, pointing out that the isolated locations of the homes, combined with the lack of street lighting, create hazards, especially with the rise in crime and illegal activities in the area. Another resident, Vinod Kumar, echoed this sentiment, noting that their repeated attempts to get updates from government officials have largely gone unanswered.

In an effort to bring attention to this pressing issue, FBC News reached out to the Office of the Northern Commissioner for a response but did not receive any comment. The community remains hopeful that the government will react swiftly and supportively to resolve these urgent challenges, striving for improved living conditions and safety for its residents.
