Fiji’s middle-distance running scene is poised for a transformative shift with the upcoming departure of notable young talent Abaramo Ratucove, who is scheduled to travel to the United States on Tuesday. Ratucove has secured a two-year academic and athletic scholarship with Neosho Community College, representing a significant milestone in his promising career.
Originating from Bua, Ratucove has garnered attention for his unwavering discipline, consistent training, and remarkable work ethic, quickly establishing himself in both school and national athletic competitions. His strategic race approach and impressive finishing skills have made him a formidable contender.
His record is commendable; Ratucove is a three-time gold medalist at the Coca-Cola Games, where he clinched the Intermediate Boys 800m title in 2023 with a time of 2:03.80 and achieved a personal best of 2:00.80 in the Senior Boys category in 2024. Additionally, his prowess in the 1500m further enhances his status as one of Fiji’s most promising athletic figures.
Ratucove’s impressive achievements have not gone unnoticed on the national stage, earning him a place on Team Fiji for the upcoming 2024 Oceania Championships. Currently, he ranks fourth in the nation for both men’s 800m and 1500m events and has been long-listed for the 2025 Mini Pacific Games.
