Fiji’s gymnastics scene is rapidly gaining recognition, largely due to the impressive achievements of its young athletes, with 11-year-old Lauren Pilla emerging as a rising star. At the 2025 National Clubs Carnival held on the Gold Coast, Lauren captivated audiences with her performance as a Youth International athlete, achieving a commendable score of 14.616 and claiming the 11th spot overall. Remarkably, Lauren accomplished this with a preparation period of just three months, in contrast to her peers who had trained for a year.
Under the expert guidance of Coach Josiemaraya Ryland from AeroGym Fiji and with additional support from esteemed Australian coaches Deborah Greenbaum and Mercedes McIntyre, Lauren’s journey in gymnastics highlights her dedication and the strong support system around her. Her family has been unwavering in their support, sharing in the joy of her gymnastic achievements.
Lauren’s journey into gymnastics began in 2023 when her mother discovered a Facebook ad for AeroGym Fiji. Since then, Lauren, a student at Nehru Memorial Primary School in Suva, has thrived in the sport, demonstrating a natural flair for movement, creativity, and a love for mastering new skills. Beyond gymnastics, she enjoys reading, music, and experimenting with makeup, reflecting her vibrant and creative personality.
Lauren’s debut is not only a personal accomplishment but also a milestone for Fijian gymnastics. Maria Alvarado from Gymnastics Federation Fiji lauded Lauren’s dedication and talent, calling it a proud moment for the nation.
Her inspiring story is a testament to perseverance, talent, and international collaboration, with a bright future ahead as she prepares for the Suzuki World Cup next year.
