Fiji’s burgeoning gymnastics scene continues to shine through the remarkable achievements of its young athletes, with Lauren Pilla leading the charge as a standout performer. At the 2025 National Clubs Carnival on the Gold Coast, Lauren made an impressive debut as a Youth International athlete, achieving an admirable score of 14.616 and securing 11th place overall. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given her limited preparation time of just three months compared to the year-long training her peers underwent.
Guided by Coach Josiemaraya Ryland of AeroGym Fiji and supported by esteemed Australian coaches Deborah Greenbaum and Mercedes McIntyre, Lauren’s journey in gymnastics is a testament to her dedication and the crucial support network around her. Her family has been a significant cheerleader in her accomplishments, reflecting their encouragement and shared joy in her gymnastics pursuits.
At just 11 years old, this Nehru Memorial Primary School student from Suva discovered her passion for gymnastics when her mother noticed an AeroGym Fiji ad on Facebook back in 2023. Since then, Lauren has flourished, showcasing her flair for movement and creativity, and finding happiness in mastering new skills. Outside the gym, her interests include reading, music, and experimenting with makeup, emphasizing her vibrant personality and creativity.
Lauren’s debut is not just a personal milestone but also a significant event for Fijian gymnastics. Maria Alvarado of Gymnastics Federation Fiji praised Lauren’s dedication and talent at such a young age, describing it as a proud moment for the nation.
Her story is inspiring, symbolizing perseverance, talent, and international collaboration, with a promising future on the horizon, particularly as she prepares for the prestigious Suzuki World Cup next year. Lauren Pilla’s journey illuminates the potential within Fiji’s gymnastics community, encouraging young athletes nationwide to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence on the world stage.
