Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has delivered a resolute New Year’s message emphasizing his Government’s dedication to combatting crime, enhancing law enforcement, and promoting public safety. He firmly stated that Fiji “will not tolerate criminal networks that profit from destroying lives.”

In his address, Mr. Rabuka acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by illicit drugs and violent crime, assuring citizens that authorities are ramping up efforts to restore safety and confidence within the community. “We are strengthening enforcement, border controls, rehabilitation programmes, and community-based prevention,” he noted emphatically.

He extended his support to the police and justice institutions, praising the Commissioner of Police and the Fiji Police Force for their unwavering commitment to ensuring public safety. Mr. Rabuka also highlighted the interest of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in bolstering national security and indicated that with proper ministerial guidance, collaboration between the Police Force and the RFMF would enhance their collective response efforts.

Recognizing the threat of transnational organized crime in Fiji’s maritime areas, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity of regional cooperation, particularly with the RFMF and Fiji Navy, to effectively identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal syndicates.

In addition to crime prevention, Mr. Rabuka expressed concern over the increase in HIV cases, especially among women and children, stating that the government is committed to enhancing education, expanding testing, and improving treatment options. “This is not just a medical challenge — it is a shared national responsibility,” he emphasized, calling on families, schools, churches, community groups, and sports organizations to participate in the effort.

Mr. Rabuka conveyed a hopeful message that the New Year symbolizes an opportunity for unity and collective action, declaring, “Together, we can turn the tide.” His address reflects a positive outlook towards a safer and healthier Fiji, with an emphasis on collaboration and community engagement.
