Fiji's People First: A New Party Shaping the Political Tide

Fiji’s People First Debuts as Ten MPs Form New Party Promising Unity and Inclusion

The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has officially announced the formation of a new political party, People First, led by a coalition of ten current parliamentarians along with their supporters. This development comes in the wake of the dissolution of the Fiji First party, with several prominent members transitioning to establish this new political entity.

People First’s proposed constitution highlights a strong commitment to inclusivity, emphasizing the party’s mission to welcome membership from every region and community. The party pledges to ensure that all citizens, regardless of race, religion, gender, or socio-economic status, have a voice, aiming to cultivate a sense of unity among the diverse populace of Fiji.

The party is anchored by three core objectives: building a unified, just, and democratic nation characterized by tolerance and patriotism; upholding the rule of law and national integrity; and prioritizing the welfare and rights of citizens above all else. These goals suggest a shift towards a more citizen-focused approach in the political landscape of Fiji.

To reinforce transparency and accountability, the FEO has introduced a seven-day objection period during which the public can engage with the formation of People First. This initiative allows for community feedback and reflection, inviting citizens to partake in the establishment of this new political force.

The creation of People First may represent a pivotal moment in Fiji’s politics, as it seeks to encourage participation from citizens of varied backgrounds and focus on their well-being. This new party has the potential to invigorate political discussions and may lead to increased representation and engagement in government, fostering a brighter political future for all Fijians.
