President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu held a reception at State House last night to honor the returning soldiers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) 1st Battalion, who completed their service under the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI). This deployment reflects Fiji’s enduring commitment to international peacekeeping operations, showcasing the nation’s dedication to global peace and stability.

Fiji’s peacekeeping forces are renowned for their professionalism, discipline, and resilience, and the RFMF boasts a proud legacy of serving in challenging missions worldwide. During the reception, President Lalabalavu expressed gratitude on behalf of the Fijian government and its citizens, acknowledging the soldiers for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifices made during their tour of duty in Iraq.

The event was graced by the presence of prominent figures, including two former Heads of State, Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, along with current Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Additionally, the reception was attended by former Prime Minister and former RFMF Commander Voreqe Bainimarama, Cabinet members, representatives from the Diplomatic Corps, civil society leaders, and senior RFMF leadership.
