Pasifika Communities University has received its first-ever grant from the Fiji Higher Education Commission for the 2025–2026 period, marking a significant milestone for the institution. Registrar Nikotemo Sopepa expressed his gratitude to the government for the grant, which aims to support the development of the university’s curriculum and strengthen its human resources.
In a statement, Sopepa revealed the university’s plans to establish new faculties, including the School of Pacific Philosophy and Engineering Science and the School of Ecology, Resilience, and Development. The funding will be directed towards the development of these faculties with the expectation that they will become operational by next year and fully developed by 2027.
The university also prioritizes offering opportunities for high school dropouts to gain skills and improve employability, highlighting its commitment to inclusive education.
Today, the Fiji Higher Education Commission signed a 2025–2026 Grant Agreement with nine other universities, an initiative set to enhance educational service delivery across participating institutions. Previously, 13 higher education institutions in Fiji received significant government funding aimed at aligning educational programs with labor market needs and bridging the skills gap in Fiji. Such measures reflect the broader governmental strategy to enhance the competitiveness of the Fijian workforce and meet evolving employment demands.
This funding aligns well with other educational advancements in Fiji, such as the recent scholarship expansion initiatives, which aim at providing greater access to tertiary education for students from diverse backgrounds. These joint efforts by the government and educational institutions aim to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy and contribute positively to the nation’s development. The government’s support exemplifies its dedication to advancing education and fostering a future-ready workforce, thereby providing a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s youth.
