Fiji’s Outsourcing Push Gets a Boost as 20 Graduates Step Into Digital Careers

Twenty individuals have celebrated their graduation from a pioneering 12-week pilot program established by boutique consultancy Solved Fiji, designed to bolster Fiji’s knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and information technology outsourcing (ITO) sectors. The program provided hands-on training in essential and highly sought-after fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), web design, online marketing, and digital development.

Janice Nand, director of Solved Fiji, emphasized that the initiative is focused on empowering young Fijians to embark on high-value digital careers while simultaneously enhancing the competitiveness of local businesses on the international stage. She stated, “These graduates are equipped to drive Fiji’s move up the outsourcing value chain, a win for our youth, our businesses, and our economy.”

Emily Wilson, First Secretary of the Australian High Commission, acknowledged the vital role of practical skills development in meeting the rising global demand for specialized outsourcing services. She pointed out Australia’s continuous support for the sector through the Market Development Facility (MDF), which has been crucial in driving skill development, job creation, and inclusive growth in Fiji. “Innovation and partnership can unlock real opportunities for Fijian communities and businesses,” Ms. Wilson remarked during the graduation ceremony.

One of the graduates, Ilisaveci Volaumaitoga, reflected on her journey, noting that the program significantly expanded her knowledge and skills, particularly regarding the utilization of AI tools to enhance efficiency across various sectors, including education, finance, tourism, and healthcare. Despite encountering challenges throughout the course, she credited the success of the group to teamwork and a positive attitude.

According to Solved Fiji, the outsourcing industry plays a significant role in the Fijian economy, contributing around $235 million annually and providing employment for over 8,000 individuals—a number that has tripled since 2018. However, a notable gap still exists, with many graduates struggling to acquire the technical skills necessary for KPO and ITO positions. In response, Solved Fiji is dedicated to supporting graduates by facilitating direct placements in outsourcing firms located in Nadi and Suva.

This initiative not only equips graduates for immediate employment but also resonates with global outsourcing trends, indicating a bright future for Fiji’s economic landscape and the development of its digital workforce. As the country continues to improve its educational and training frameworks, it strengthens its position as a competitive contender in the global outsourcing arena, fostering hope for sustainable economic growth.
