Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa has announced that the Ministry is focusing on several critical infrastructure projects, including a significant market complex and a new bus station, with construction efforts set to ramp up in the upcoming financial year.
In a recent statement regarding ongoing municipal developments, Nalumisa revealed that while there are currently no active projects at the municipal level, tenders have been awarded for a noteworthy initiative. He highlighted the Naboro Passenger Terminal, which is scheduled for an official opening next week, marking a significant milestone in public transport services.
Additionally, the Minister discussed the important informal settlement upgrading project, which is being executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing. “This is a very important project that is closely monitored by both departments,” Nalumisa noted. He also expressed his hope to declare certain areas as towns, emphasizing that this is one of his key responsibilities, with potential announcements forthcoming.
Other initiatives from the Ministry include the reopening of government parking areas, minor enhancements to markets around Fiji, and plans aimed at elevating the status of additional towns. These efforts are designed to improve municipal services and provide greater support to local communities.
These developments reflect a positive direction for infrastructure investment and community enhancement, inspiring hope for improved living conditions and services for residents across the region.
