The Fijian Elections Office has announced that the voting process for the upcoming municipal elections in September will closely resemble that of the general election, ensuring a familiar experience for voters. Ana Mataiciwa, the Supervisor of Elections, indicated that while some differences will exist, the overall voting procedure will maintain its core elements.

Ms. Mataiciwa affirmed the necessity for voters to present their voter cards, which is a staple requirement. She highlighted the importance of having a Local Government register for voters, stating that eligible voters will be registered for the municipal elections in the upcoming months. Details of this initiative will be shared with stakeholders during briefings planned for March.

The main distinction in the voting process will be reflected in the ballot papers. Unlike the general election, where ballot papers include numerical identifiers, the municipal election ballots will feature the names of the candidates alongside their respective parties.

The Supervisor assured that despite these minor adjustments, the fundamental voting procedures will largely remain unchanged, providing continuity and ease for voters. The Fijian Elections Office is committed to keeping the public informed about voter registration and other election preparations as they develop. This proactive communication aims to foster a smooth electoral process and encourage civic participation among the electorate.
