The Ministry of Fisheries Research, in collaboration with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), has successfully wrapped up a two-day financial literacy workshop dedicated to enhancing livelihoods in Fiji’s mabe pearl sector.

Conducted in Savusavu on February 24–25, 2026, the workshop targeted local communities engaged in mabe pearl farming, focusing on improving their financial management skills. Participants were equipped with practical tools to better manage their income and expenses, thereby fostering improved profitability and encouraging the long-term sustainability of their businesses.

Organisers highlighted that boosting financial literacy is a critical step in empowering these communities to take greater control over their operations. This initiative aims to help them achieve more stable economic outcomes, positioning the mabe pearl sector for future success.

This collaborative effort showcases the importance of nurturing local expertise and economic independence, ensuring that the benefits of the pearl farming industry can be maximized for the communities involved.
