Rosie Travel Group Volunteers Transform Fiji's Koroipita on World Tourism Day

Fiji’s Koroipita Gets a Tourism-Driven Makeover on World Tourism Day

In a spirited celebration of World Tourism Day, approximately 40 volunteers from the Rosie Travel Group of Companies engaged in meaningful community service at Koroipita Township, located near Lautoka. Employees from Rosie Holidays, Rosie Outsourcing, the Likuliku Lagoon Resort, and Malolo Island Resort participated in various activities, which included constructing timber windows and doors, painting houses under development, and planting over 50 palm trees as part of the township’s beautification initiative.

Vikash Chand, the corporate social responsibility representative for Rosie Travel Group, underscored the significance of this year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” He noted, “We marked the day by serving at Koroipita, a settlement with 1,400 residents who benefit from cyclone-safe homes and family advancement programs.” The team’s contribution extended to landscaping and construction work on new homes at K4, reflecting the company’s unwavering commitment to community support.

Chand also highlighted the pivotal role that tourism plays in uplifting local communities. He recounted a visit to the Expedia-Rosie Learning Centre, inaugurated last year, and the Koroipita micro-enterprise sewing factory, which has secured contracts to produce 120,000 cotton beach bags for leading Australian clients.

Ranjini Pratap, acting general manager of Koroipita Model Township, commended Rosie Holidays for their long-term commitment to the community since 2005, noting their significant contributions that include homes, pathways, and playgrounds. She expressed her delight in witnessing the enthusiasm of the next generation from the Rosie and Ahura Resorts family as they served the community, highlighting the positive ripple effects of tourism on Fiji, especially in its more remote areas.

Koroipita, founded by Peter Drysdale, is home to over 350 residences and is dedicated to supporting 1,400 residents from low-income families, offering benefits such as cyclone-certified homes, running water, electricity, and various community programs aimed at elevating living standards.

This initiative exemplifies the vital role that tourism can have in promoting sustainable development and enriching community welfare, providing essential assistance to families while enhancing the appearance and livability of their environments. The continuous efforts of organizations like Rosie Travel Group illustrate a promising outlook for positive transformation in local communities throughout Fiji.
