Fiji’s Inaugural Architecture Conference: Ministers, Climate Talks and a Trade Expo

The Fiji Architects Association, in collaboration with the Construction Industry Council, is set to kick off the inaugural Fiji Architecture Conference and Trade Exhibition from tonight at the Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau. This three-day event aims to unite the country’s architectural designers and engineers, fostering a dialogue on important issues within the construction and architectural sectors.

Adish Naidu, president of the Fiji Architects Association, highlighted that discussions are expected to focus on significant legislative factors impacting the industry. He noted the valuable involvement of cabinet ministers, who will present on crucial topics such as Fiji’s building codes and the pressing challenges related to housing. “One of the great things about the conference is the participation of cabinet ministers who will also be presenting,” Naidu expressed, underlining the event’s commitment to addressing the current state of the construction industry.

The conference will feature a diverse lineup of speakers, including Professor Philip Cox AO from COX Architecture Australia, who will discuss “Redefining Pacific Architecture in the Face of Climate Change.” Additionally, Dr. Soumen Maity and Robert Smith are scheduled to present on “Blue Concrete: Limestone Calcined Clay Cements – Relevance to Fiji” on Friday, contributing to the discourse on innovative building practices.

A notable highlight of the event will be the engagement of key government officials such as Housing Minister Maciu Nalumisa, Minister for Infrastructure Ro Filipe Tuisawau, and Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel, who are expected to address crucial topics surrounding emerging trends, sustainable practices, and technologies transforming the built environment.

Beyond the intellectual engagement, the conference will host trade exhibitions featuring innovative products and services from leading industry brands. This combination of informative sessions and networking opportunities is designed to connect architects, designers, engineers, and construction professionals, thereby fostering collaboration across the sector.

The Fiji Architecture Conference and Trade Exhibition stands as a crucial platform for knowledge sharing and collaborative innovation. As Fiji strives for sustainable development, this event holds the potential to pave the way for impactful solutions that tackle the unique challenges facing the nation’s architectural and construction landscape. The involvement of prominent figures from both the industry and government is a promising sign of an inclusive approach towards a resilient future for Fiji’s built environment.
