Fiji’s healthcare logistics system has undergone a notable transformation thanks to a generous donation of $143,000 FJD from the Australia Fiji Health Program, coordinated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The contribution, which was presented to the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services (FPBS), consists of vital equipment including a forklift, laptops, trolleys, and 14,000 saline intravenous solutions, all designed to improve operational efficiency and address pressing medical needs.
Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, the Chief Medical Advisor at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the significance of these donations, which provide practical solutions to enhance the resilience of the supply chain. The introduction of the forklift is set to optimize warehouse operations, while the trolleys will improve both the safety and efficiency of order fulfillment processes. The laptops are anticipated to facilitate the digitization of procurement systems, moving towards a more contemporary framework for healthcare logistics.
The provision of saline solutions is particularly timely, as it helps to mitigate a critical clinical shortage, thereby positively affecting patient care. Dr. Cikamatana expressed her appreciation for the partnership, noting that this support not only builds on previous advancements but also establishes a foundation for a digitally-enabled future in healthcare.
During the handover ceremony, Dr. Frances Bingwor, DFAT Senior Program Manager for Health, highlighted that this donation will guarantee the continuous supply of essential medical items to those in need. She stressed that this collaboration signifies a shared commitment to reinforcing Fiji’s healthcare system through innovative and practical support.
This initiative marks a promising advancement in enhancing healthcare services in Fiji, contributing to a stronger system capable of meeting the evolving needs of its population.
