The Nasinu Volleyball Alliance (NVA), in partnership with the Fiji Sports Council (FSC), is excited to announce the Rooster Chicken Volleyball Grassroot Development Festival, a two-day tournament designed to elevate the standard of volleyball in Fiji and nurture rising talents.
NVA president Mataiasi Daulako shared his excitement about the upcoming event, highlighting that teams from the Western, Northern, and Central Divisions are diligently preparing to compete. He expressed gratitude to the Fiji Sports Council for their collaboration and acknowledged the vital support of Rooster Chicken, the main sponsor, which has significantly enhanced the festival’s stature.
The festival’s primary goal is to uplift volleyball standards through a sizable prize money pool, incentivizing rigorous training and performance. It aims to positively engage youth in sports, steering them away from crime and substance abuse, while providing grassroots players and clubs the chance to showcase their skills in a highly competitive environment.
Daulako noted that the Grassroot Volleyball Festival presents an excellent opportunity for clubs and players to exhibit their talents and strive for substantial prizes. The idea for this initiative was first discussed last year between Fiji Sports Council CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure and the NVA, with a shared vision to develop volleyball as a key sport in Fiji.
He emphasized Fiji’s potential for future success in beach volleyball at the Olympics, asserting that such initiatives will better prepare players for Fiji Volleyball Federation (FVF) sanctioned competitions and help unearth hidden talents at the grassroots level.
A total of 18 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams are confirmed to participate, including prominent teams such as Police Blue (Vulaca Champion 2024), Avengers (recent finalists in the FVF Interclubs 2025), Redline, Tuatua from Labasa, Kinoya Heartland (winners of the previous year’s Interclub), and Gold Jets from Nadi.
Scheduled to take place at the FMF Gym and car park on Thursday and Friday, the festival represents a critical step forward in the development of volleyball in Fiji. It not only seeks to enhance the competitive atmosphere but also aims to foster a supportive community around the sport, ultimately contributing to the nation’s success on the international sporting stage.
