Fiji's Fulton Adventist University Inches Toward Full Status

Fiji’s Fulton Adventist University Wins Provisional Approval, Sets Stage for Full University Status

Fulton Adventist College has obtained provisional approval from the Higher Education Commission of Fiji (HEC) to operate under the new name of Fulton Adventist University. This pivotal milestone, granted on October 3, allows the institution to function with its new title for a period of six months, during which time the Fulton Adventist University Bill will be considered in Parliament. Upon conclusion of this period, the HEC will assess the university’s readiness for full accreditation.

At a recent celebratory event, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ronald Stone highlighted that this achievement goes beyond merely a name change; it pays homage to the institution’s enduring commitment to education and service. He reiterated the university’s mission to provide a holistic education that nurtures the mind, soul, and spirit of its students.

HEC Director Dr. Eci Naisele praised Fulton for meeting the exacting standards required for university status, noting that it was among the first institutions in Fiji to be fully registered and accredited. He emphasized that Fulton’s vision directly addresses a significant need within the higher education sector in Fiji.

Affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Fulton offers various academic programs in theology, education, and business, serving students from 11 Pacific nations. The university is poised to celebrate its 120th anniversary from November 26 to 29, planning a reunion event for alumni and supporters to commemorate this significant milestone.

This development is part of a broader national focus on enhancing the quality of higher education in Fiji, reflecting increased governmental support for educational initiatives. The drive to improve access to high-quality education not only bolsters workforce readiness but also positions institutions like Fulton as leaders in regional education. The positive outlook for Fulton Adventist University is fueled not only by regulatory approval but also by the strong support it receives from both the government and the community. This progress instills hope for a future where education plays a crucial role in transforming communities across the Pacific region.
