Fiji’s Fulton Adventist University College Targets Climate-Smart Agriculture and Community Leadership

The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways has praised Fulton Adventist University College in Sabeto, Nadi, for its unwavering commitment to holistic education, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship. During a recent official visit, Assistant Minister Inosi Kuridrani commended the college for its values-driven leadership and its focus on sustainable agricultural development and rural engagement, noting its significant role in shaping young leaders with a foundation in Christian principles and practical knowledge.

Describing Fulton as a beacon of faith and leadership in the South Pacific, Kuridrani emphasized the necessity of bridging education with real-world practices. The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways expressed eagerness to partner with the college on environmental initiatives that focus on watershed management, reforestation, and climate-smart agricultural practices. This aligns with ongoing efforts within the government to bolster education as a cornerstone of national development and to enhance Fiji’s competitiveness through quality educational offerings.

As part of the visit, Kuridrani toured the college’s agricultural campus farm, where he presented farming tools and seedlings to support its agricultural initiatives. Discussions with college officials also aimed at potentially reintroducing agriculture courses, which would serve to further enhance hands-on learning and community outreach.

Fulton Adventist University College’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Tabua Tuima, expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s support, emphasizing its importance as the institution works towards achieving full university accreditation. The college has a storied legacy of faith-based education stretching back to its founding in 1905, and with ongoing governmental backing, it stands poised to further its impact in the region.

This partnership reflects a broader commitment to fostering the next generation of agricultural leaders through integrative educational approaches. Through proactive measures and strong community ties, both the Ministry and Fulton Adventist University College aim to inspire hope and drive sustainable growth in Fiji’s educational landscape and environmental stewardship efforts.
