Fiji’s football scene is set to come alive as the FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC) kicks off this Tuesday, according to Anushil Kumar, the General Manager of Operations for Fiji Football. This year’s tournament is poised to bring an exciting lineup, with special attention given to evening fixtures that aim to attract fans who may struggle to attend daytime games.
Kumar highlighted the strong interest surrounding the event, citing impressive ticket sales as a testament to the supporters’ enthusiasm for one of Fiji’s premier football occasions. To accommodate the working community, he shared that the tournament will feature at least two night matches with kickoffs scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. This decision allows working fans to catch full matches and provides a comprehensive experience for those who can attend the entire day’s events.
The IDC will see teams from Fiji’s traditional football hubs, ensuring widespread participation and engagement among fans. The tournament’s opening day will commence with a match between Rewa and Nadroga at 1:30 p.m., followed by Labasa facing Nadi at 3:30 p.m. The official opening ceremony will be conducted by Hon. Filimoni Vosarogo, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, at 5:30 p.m. Evening matchups will feature Lautoka against Suva at 6 p.m., and Ba will conclude the day’s events with a game against Navua at 8 p.m.
For those unable to attend in person, selected matches will be broadcast live on Radio Fiji Two, ensuring that the excitement of the IDC can reach fans across the nation. This tournament promises to be a vibrant celebration of football, enhancing community spirit and showcasing local talent, making it a much-anticipated highlight on Fiji’s sporting calendar. With the buzz surrounding the IDC, it’s clear that this year’s event will be a memorable one for players and supporters alike.
