Fijian Flying Circus to Tour New Zealand in 2026 With Government Support

Fiji’s Flying Circus Heads to New Zealand for 2026 Tour

Fiji’s esteemed Fijian Flying Circus is set to embark on its inaugural tour of New Zealand in 2026, a venture made possible with the backing of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as the New Zealand High Commission in Suva. This exciting news was unveiled in Suva by New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Charlotte Darlow, in the presence of VOU performers and Director Sachiko Soro.

The Fijian Flying Circus, known for its dynamic fusion of contemporary dance, circus arts, and Pacific stories, will grace two prominent arts festivals in New Zealand. The troupe is scheduled to perform at the Wellington Fringe Festival from February 17 to 21, followed by a feature presentation at the Hamilton Arts Festival on February 27 and 28.

High Commissioner Darlow expressed pride in New Zealand’s support of this artistic endeavor, highlighting Fiji’s creative talents. She remarked, “I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this show with my family, and I know New Zealand audiences are going to love it. It’s a privilege to support this level of Fijian creative excellence.”

Sachiko Soro conveyed the significance of this collaboration for the arts community in Fiji. She likened the support from New Zealand to having a big brother or sister who encourages them, underscoring its importance in creating sustainable opportunities for local artists. The performers of the Fijian Flying Circus are all full-time artists, having been trained at VOU’s accredited Conservatorium of Dance, where they develop skills across multiple facets of production, including performance, lighting, sound, and costume design.

The Fijian Flying Circus aims to deliver a mesmerizing display that reflects Pacific identity, unity, and creative resolution, fostering a strong relationship with New Zealand and its Pacific diaspora. Their performances are poised to be an uplifting celebration of culture and artistry, promising to resonate deeply with audiences both locally and internationally. This tour represents a milestone in the cultural exchange between Fiji and New Zealand, highlighting the strength and vibrancy of Pacific arts and fostering greater understanding and appreciation of their shared heritage.
