Fiji’s First Civil Aviation Authority-Endorsed Instrument Flight Procedure Designer Breaks Ground

Fiji Airports is celebrating a groundbreaking achievement with Kalesi Samanunu Cagi becoming the nation’s first Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji-endorsed Instrument Flight Procedure Designer. This milestone not only enhances Fiji’s aviation capabilities but also serves as a significant benchmark for women in technical leadership roles, moving the organization closer to establishing a fully accredited Instrument Flight Procedure (IFP) office within Fiji, reducing dependence on foreign experts.

Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari expressed pride in this development, noting that Cagi’s accomplishment demonstrates the depth of talent being cultivated within Fiji Airports. Since taking on the leadership of the Aeronautical Information Services unit in 2023, Cagi has expanded her team from three to 13 specialists. Her new qualification empowers her to design, review, and maintain instrument flight procedures across all Fijian airports, addressing aspects such as obstacle assessments, terrain analysis, and coding for flight management systems.

Cagi views her certification as a testament to the progress and potential for future aviation professionals in Fiji, highlighting that technical excellence can indeed be developed domestically with the appropriate support. This achievement is further underscored by recognition from the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji for endorsing a Standard Document for Instrument Flight Procedure Service Providers, which made the certification possible.

Fiji Airports has reiterated their dedication to building sovereign aviation capabilities and ensuring the delivery of safe, world-class services across the Pacific region. Celebrating progress such as Cagi’s appointment showcases Fiji’s commitment to embracing innovation, fostering local expertise, and setting an inspiring precedent for future aviation developments in the country.
