Fiji’s Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC) has embarked on a transformative partnership with New Zealand-based cleaning products manufacturer It Works Naturally (IWN). This collaboration aims to bolster the foundation’s efforts to support underprivileged children in Fiji through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding.
At the signing ceremony, IWN’s founder, Hepke van de Luis, proposed a two-phase plan designed to enhance FENC’s operations and alleviate its financial strains. De Luis expressed a strong commitment to aid vulnerable communities by providing cleaning products at reduced costs, addressing a pressing need for resources within Fiji. “It’s challenging to fundraise in today’s economy, especially when reaching out to businesses for support,” he stated, reflecting on the difficulties faced by FENC in raising funds.
John Samy, the founder and Chair of FENC, welcomed the partnership, indicating that the foundation would market IWN products, contingent on a formal agreement. He noted the profound impact of this collaboration, expressing gratitude towards van de Luis for stepping forward to assist. Samy mentioned that within the initial 12 to 18 months, IWN aims to donate approximately $300,000 to FENC, which would significantly bolster its efforts to help needy children.
The first phase of the initiative will involve exporting IWN products to local Fiji retailers and wholesalers within a timeframe of 12 to 18 months. The second phase will focus on assessing the potential for manufacturing IWN products in Fiji, with profits generated from this venture aimed directly at supporting the foundation’s activities.
This partnership aligns with FENC’s ongoing commitment to empowering vulnerable children and families in Fiji, similar to its previous collaborations, such as with Vuvale Outsourcing, which focused on creating sustainable economic opportunities through skills training and practical projects.
