Fiji’s electronic transport system, e-Transport, is undergoing remarkable growth and acceptance across the nation, highlighting a crucial shift towards a cashless public transport network. This progress was underscored during the E-Ticketing Steering Committee meeting held on October 9, 2025, where members from the Fiji Bus Operators Association and various other stakeholders gathered. Reports from the meeting indicated record usage levels and enhanced service delivery, reflecting the rising digital engagement among commuters.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, commended the successes of the e-Transport system, noting that it exemplifies how digital solutions can revolutionize daily activities. He acknowledged the collaboration of bus operators and partners aimed at improving reliability and passenger satisfaction. Kamikamica also announced the impending launch of a QR Pay feature scheduled for October 20, designed for both Android and iOS users, which will further simplify the commuting experience.
Presently, the e-Transport platform boasts over 492,000 registered cards, with 320,000 active users each month and approximately 128,000 daily users. The dedicated mobile application has been downloaded more than 95,000 times, connecting around 65,000 unique cards, showcasing a robust embrace of digital payment alternatives by the public.
The e-Ticketing initiative is becoming integral to Fiji’s digital economy, promoting transparency, inclusivity, and modernization within public transportation. As the nation progresses, the introduction of new features and continuous improvements promise to enhance convenience and accessibility for users further.
There is a palpable sense of optimism surrounding these advancements, with stakeholders eager for the ongoing development of Fiji’s public transport framework. By embedding technology-driven solutions into the daily commuting experience, Fiji is paving the way toward a more efficient, accessible, and environmentally friendly transport system for its citizens.
