Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad has reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s dedication to transforming Fiji into “a land of hope and opportunity for all our people” in his Diwali message. In his address, the leader of the National Federation Party acknowledged the remarkable goodwill, tolerance, and unity blossoming among Fiji’s diverse multi-ethnic and multi-religious community since the Coalition Government took office in December 2022. He highlighted that Deepavali, or Diwali, embodies a time for family, reflection, and prayer, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and truth over evil.
Professor Prasad emphasized that the Coalition Government has redefined what it means to foster common and equal citizenship by ensuring fundamental freedoms, including speech, association, and media, are respected. He affirmed the government’s openness to accepting constructive criticism, while maintaining that good governance, transparency, and accountability are of utmost importance.
He expressed that Fiji is “illuminating the lives of our people and restoring pride and patriotism,” indicating that brighter days are on the horizon. His message aligns closely with prior reflections made during the festival, where he often parallels the teachings of Lord Ram with the governmental principles of honesty, justice, and selflessness.
