Fiji Government Roadshow Brings Consular Services to Diaspora in Australia

Fiji’s Diaspora in Australia Gains Direct Access to Government Services

The Fiji Government Services Roadshow has successfully strengthened its ties with Fijian communities in Australia, facilitating direct access to essential government services for the diaspora. Launched on September 25, 2025, in the culturally significant site of Uluru, this initiative is led by the Fiji High Commission in Canberra in collaboration with various government ministries.

This year is particularly notable as His Excellency Ajay Amrit, Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, became the first Fijian Head of Mission to visit the Barkly region. During his visit, Amrit expressed his deep appreciation for the local community’s warm hospitality and acknowledged the enduring contributions of Fijians both locally and in their homeland.

“The turnout and positive spirit among the Fijians in the region were indeed heartening. The contributions from our people here reflect the resilience and strength of our community,” he stated. The roadshow served not only to deliver services but also as a forum for discussing crucial economic opportunities for Fiji focused on trade, investment, and enhancing business collaborations.

Prominent among the delegation was Jone Maritino Nemani, the Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations, who engaged with PALM workers and the Fijian diaspora, commending their hard work and local support. The events held in Barkly, followed by stops in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Victoria, and Queensland, provided the community with access to vital consular services, including voter registration and enrollment in the Vola ni Kawa Bula (VKB).

Additionally, the Fiji Day celebrations in Brisbane and Sydney were major highlights, bringing together thousands to celebrate their heritage. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officiated at the Sydney event, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the wellbeing of its citizens abroad.

Overall, the roadshow embodies the Fijian government’s dedication to reinforcing connections with citizens living overseas. This initiative is essential for improving accessibility to government services and fostering a supportive environment for Fijians in Australia. As these efforts continue, they are set to cultivate enduring relationships and promote collaboration, benefiting both the diaspora and Fiji’s national development.
