Fiji’s Cartwheel 2025: A Global Military Drill Underway

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has announced a significant military exercise, Exercise Cartwheel 2025, which commenced recently and will last until November 11, 2025. The exercise involves simulated gunfire and explosions, prompting the RFMF to reassure the public not to be alarmed by the sounds of military training in the areas surrounding Force Training Group, Wainibuku, Makoi, and Colo-i-Suva.

Troops from several countries, including the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Tonga, and Japan, are participating in this large-scale training operation. The RFMF stated that the purpose of the exercise is to enhance coordination and improve the interoperability between Fiji and its international partners.

“Exercise Cartwheel has evolved into a crucial platform for building cooperation, readiness, and interoperability,” the RFMF stated. The military emphasized that these drills would involve blank ammunition and pyrotechnics to create realistic battle conditions and allow troops to train as they would operate in real crisis scenarios.

The public has been advised to stay informed and follow safety instructions from military personnel during this period. The RFMF expressed its gratitude for the community’s understanding and cooperation, noting that such support is vital for maintaining high readiness standards to effectively respond to contingencies.

Furthermore, Exercise Cartwheel 2025 reflects Fiji’s ongoing commitment to regional security and disaster response preparedness. This exercise is part of a broader trend, as illustrated by Fiji’s participation in previous multinational military exercises such as Exercise Talisman Sabre and Exercise Croix du Sud, which have focused on enhancing regional military capabilities and fostering cooperative relationships among Pacific nations.

The ongoing exercises not only bolster the skills of the Fijian military but also promote unity and collaboration among nations facing common security challenges, contributing to a hopeful and secure future for the region.
